DevExperience: What did you want to become when you were a child?

One of my first dream jobs was game designer, later on, I wanted to be a fashion designer, an artist, scientist and about 200 other things :)

DevExperience: What is the story of your begining in this field? How did you start working in this industry?

I joined the industry quite late in my life. I had previously been working mostly in marketing and management. After a couple of years, I was done with marketing and decided to take a leap and of faith and make my hobby into a profession. It was the best decision I ever made and I haven't looked back since.

DevExperience: There are a lot of juniors in IT that dream to work with Google. Please tell us how is it like to work with Google!

I'm part of the Google Developers Expert program, so I work with Google. I get to be part of a great network of amazing people and we share our knowledge and enthusiasm for the industry.

DevExperience: How was it for you as a woman to work in this field, what do you do exactly for integrating more women to this industry and what are your message to women who would like to work in IT?

I teach courses for women on web development basics. The best thing about it is that after a couple of hours almost all of them say "Oh wow, I never thought I could do this but I'm having fun". It's all about trying it out. If you like it, stick with it.

DevExperience: What do you know about Iași and Romania? Dont Google it! :)

I think I know how to pronounce Iași (I cheated and asked a Romanian friend). Other than that I don't know much, aside from Dracula of course but I'm looking forward to getting to know a new city!

DevExperience: What is your main advice for a junior who wants to develop a career in IT?

Don't be intimidated. The others also had to start somewhere. Find a niche you are comfortable in and practice. Ask a lot of questions.

DevExperience: What do you do for your both personal and professional development? How does a normal day looks like for you? What about a not so normal day?

A normal weekday looks like this: I get up at 6am, eat breakfast, scroll through twitter and instagram, go to the office, get home, have dinner with my husband and end the day with some knitting or reading.

I find it very important to have enough time away from the computer after I leave work, so I craft a lot. It tickles the same places in my brain as programming does but it has the added advantage of producing something that I can actually touch. So I guess the thing I find most beneficial for my personal and professional development is to wind down, find time for myself, read a lot and spend time with people I love.

DevExperience: What is the greatest part of your job? What is the not so great part of it?

The greatest part of working at my current company is the team. I love the people I work with, we have a lot of fun and really care about the products we are building. I really can't complain, so at the moment I don't have any not so great things to talk about.

DevExperience: How would you explain to an old lady who knows nothing about technology what is it exactly that you do? :)

I actually once explained to my grandfather what I do and he got it. This is what I told him:
On the internet, people can buy virtual space where they can put their data. Let's say they put it in a house. So we build a virtual house to put all the data in. I'm the person that paints the house, hangs up drapes, puts in carpets and makes sure that the doors can be opened and the light switches work.

DevExperience: Tell us more about the main ideas of your talk at DevExperience! Why should people register and attend the event?

My talk is all about inspiration. Inspiration to create things you didn't think of before with technologies that aren't necessarily meant for these things. I challenge myself to not get stuck in a rut and find creative solutions for problems in order to get better at what I do. So what I hope to do with this talk is inspire people to use code not only for their jobs but also as a creative outlet. All the while we'll be life coding a cute illustration, so hey, it's going to be a lot of fun!
